From very young Michelle Wie showed promise as the next up and coming female golfing talent, getting to grips with the game at the age of four, and at 10 she became the youngest player at the time to qualify for the Women’s US Amateur Public Links Championship. In 2002, she won the women’s division of the Hawaii State Open by 13 shots, thus again becoming the youngest golfer at the time to qualify for an LPGA event. She was also the fourth – and youngest – female to compete in a PGA Tour event at the 2004 Sony Open, although she missed the cut despite carding a second-round 68.
When Michelle turned professional in 2005, one week before her 16th birthday, she joined the LPGA Tour full-time in 2009. Later in that same year came her first tour victory at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and then she added another win to her resume at the 2010 CN Canadian Women’s Open shortly thereafter.
