Every player is different, that is why we recommend getting your new driver fine-tuned to meet your exact specifications so that you receive the maximum possible benefits. Most of the top end drivers are all available with the option of being custom built to guarantee you have the correctly suited shaft flex, shaft type, shaft length, clubhead, loft, adjustable setting and grip. With numerous combinations of the latter available for the big stick, our renowned fitting process always delivers for identifying a driver which ticks all the boxes for maximising distance, forgiveness, accuracy and consistency.
Flex Options
Firstly within our driver fitting we will begin by measuring your clubhead speed to assess which flex option best suits you. Each driver includes a cluster of both standard and custom shaft options situated across various different flex options such as Extra Stiff, Stiff, Regular, Soft Regular, Lady Flex and Junior Flex. The most suitable flex option is dependent on a golfer’s clubhead speed, the two should correspond with each other in order to match the club’s ability to bend parallel to the speed of the golfer’s swing. This allows the golfer to feel in complete control of the clubhead’s path and thus prompting a more confident delivery towards impact. Usually if a golfer’s clubhead speed with a driver is below 80 mph then they will be more suited to a soft regular shaft. If the golfer is between 80-90 mph then they would look to be fitted with a regular shaft. Between 90-105 mph best suits a player to be fitted with a stiff flex shaft and above 105 mph means a player should have an extra stiff shaft. Although this may sound quite simple if a player roughly knows there clubhead speed, it is still highly recommended to take full use of our favoured free custom-fitting process as in certain scenarios a player may be best off going up or down a flex depending on if their clubhead speed is borderline between two flex options. Choosing the wrong flex would hinder a golfer’s clubhead speed and so forth their distance, accuracy and consistency with the driver. Ultimately it is therefore definitely worth seeking advice from our expertly trained custom fitting team.
Shaft Type
Having been advised on the best suitable shaft flex, our fitters would move onto finding the best type of shaft within the chosen flex in order to choose the most appropriately weighted option. Within a shaft flex category, there are differently weighted shafts to offer more precision for matching a player's swing speed. Differently weighted shafts situated across all flexes help either lower or increase spin rates off the face of the club. Typically the standard weight of a driver is normally between 50 to 60 grams. Lower spinning and lower trajectory shafts are found with added weight as these can be between 70 and 80 grams. On the opposite end of the scale, higher spinning and launching shafts are below 50 grams and normally situated at a weight of 40 grams. Across the different weights, depending on the model of driver there are various options of same flex and weighted shaft options to choose from. This is all based on preference and sometimes trial and error to see which shaft fits the best.
Shaft Length
Depending on the brand, the modern-day driver comes at a maximum length of 46 inches. These can be tailored to fit the best length to suit the golfer based on either their height or set up position. Usually if a player is considerably shorter then these can be reduced by either half or a full inch, meaning they play at either 45 or 45.5 inches long. Combining the correct shaft flex, type and length ultimately enable a golfer with the foundations to then find the best possible head type and loft to then generate the best results from the tee box.
Clubhead
Having decided on the perfect shaft option, our fitters would move onto finding the best head option to provide the player with the most suitable benefit. Each model comes in a variety of different head formats to cater for all different golfing setups. Different heads come in different sizes which can be anything up to 460cc. The head size dictates the driver’s forgiveness, distance and spin rate factor. Certain heads also provide added assistance for counteracting those dreaded slice shots, as these come fixed in an offset position to help promote a straighter flighting tee shot. Our expert advice would choose the most beneficial head style to suit you depending on your trajectory and direction of your ball flight. Once the correct head style has been identified our team would then move onto locating the best loft option.
Loft
As well as the option of loft adjustability in the majority of models, each driver comes in various standard lofts to provide added precision for applying the most suitable launch angle to then provide the maximum possible carry and total distance. Our stock drivers are available in 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12, 13 and 14 degrees of loft. During our favourable custom-fitting process, our experts will provide the most suitable loft option for you along with the correct head type to give you the perfectly suited trajectory that your long game requires.
Adjustability
The modernized driver provides golfers with greater options for altering the loft, lie and weight position to best suit the golfer. Changing the loft can be tailored to an individual to help provide the required higher/lower trajectory in order to deliver the most penetrating ball flight possible. The lie angle can be adjusted to help counteract those unintentional fade/draw shots which ultimately result in a lost ball. The top of the range models also include adjustable weights within the driver’s head, which provide extensive versatility for increasing/lowering spin rates to either maximise forgiveness or distance, based on the golfer’s desired preference. This allows for even further finer tuning to certifying the precise setting for your driver. Once the perfect setting has been found there is no need to change unless further down the line, should your preference or swing change then this can be easily adjusted.

How to choose the best golf drivers for beginners?
Beginners may find a golf driver difficult to control, but that’s not to say that you can’t be fitted for one that is suitable for your game. Because they typically have lower lofts, they can take a more rehearsed swing to get the ball off the ground confidently and accurately. Beginners may feel more comfortable with a golf driver that has a loft of 10.5 to 12 degrees, the higher end of your average driver, because these will provide greater forgiveness in shots. Along with the correct measurements for your club, beginners should therefore look for higher lofted drivers, whilst more experienced players will often opt for a driver with a loft below 10 degrees.
